ClearRec is a voice recorder for Android, built to work on your device. This page explains what the app does and does not do with your data.
In short
- Your recordings are stored on your device and are not uploaded by the app.
- This version of the app does not request Android's internet permission.
- There is no account, no advertising, and no analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
What the app asks Android for
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Microphone | To record audio, only after you start a recording. A notification is shown for as long as ClearRec is recording. |
| Notifications | To show the recording notification and its Pause, Resume and Stop actions. Recording still works if you decline. |
| Foreground service (microphone) | So Android keeps the recording running while you use other apps. |
| Wake lock | To keep the processor awake while a recording is in progress. |
Where your recordings are stored
Recordings, their names and waveform previews are stored in storage private to the app on your device, which other apps cannot read. Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are turned off for this data. Deleting a recording in the app deletes its file, and uninstalling the app removes everything it stored.
Sharing and exporting
Nothing leaves the app unless you choose it. If you tap Share, ClearRec makes a temporary copy and hands it to the app you pick through Android's share sheet. If you tap Save copy, it writes a copy to the location you choose in Android's file picker. Temporary share copies are removed the next time the app starts. Once a copy is in another app or location, that app's or service's own policies apply.
Data we collect
None through the app. The developer does not receive your recordings, settings, device identifiers or usage information, because the app has no way to send them.
Recording other people
Please ask for consent before recording other people and follow the laws that apply where you are. ClearRec records through your device's microphone and does not record phone calls.
Children
ClearRec does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with an updated date.
